Hello hello!
Second drama finished for the year, and another goodie!
《She and Her Perfect Husband》is mostly fluffy, with a sprinkling of angst in the second half for flavour, but really no more than a sprinkling. The set up is Rising Lawyer!Qin Shi (played by the beautiful Yang Mi) enters a fancy law firm which has rules against promoting single women, and so invents a husband (who just happens to work overseas most of the time, too bad, so sad.) She keeps a photo on her desk of her 'husband', ripped off of Weibo, and when the unsuspecting Yang Hua (played by Xue Kai) turns up at a social function, Qin Shi's boss recognises him straight away and takes his arm to lead him to his "wife", who, being quick on her feet, pulls him in for a proper kiss which has the double effect of stopping him from talking and making all her colleagues giggle and turn away. in other words, one of the great meet cutes.

The pacing of the subsequent drama (bc for *reasons* Yang Hua agrees to keep up the pretence) is nicely managed, with just enough going on to keep things on the bubble, both in our main couple's personal and professional lives. There is an ex boyfriend for our lawyer, with a bitchy new fiancee, troublesome parents on both sides, and in the final stretch an ex-girlfriend for Yang Hua, with a little boy who looks and acts suspiciously like he might be a complication. There's also various wheeling and dealing at the law firm, both in terms of cases and office politics, and a run in with Yang Hua's professional past in the persons of his one time mentor, and his one time best work friend who did him down.

My only two real problems with the show were 1) Wang Zixuan, the actress playing the ex-boyfriend's new fiancee, who is an A grade menace: it's the same actress who played WYB's main squeeze in 《Gank Your Heart》, and it was hard to watch her being horrible when I remembered her being so sweet. (This is totally a me thing; the actress herself did a fine job of her role.) and 2)the ending, which felt a little weird in it's details, and a little rushed in it's final conclusion. For crying out loud, the VIKI 'end of drama' credits sequence with all the translators names etc had already started running before we got to the biggest emotional moment. To my mind it needed at least another scene and a couple more minutes to just enjoy the happy ending, but no, everything was just over. This was a totally confusing decision to my mind. Is there an extra mini episode floating around somewhere like they did for Being a Hero, maybe?

Anyhow, both of these things are minor quibbles. It was an enjoyable way to pass the time. Now to pick another drama to watch...
